Since its introduction 25 years ago, Invisalign clear aligners have helped over 14 million people achieve straighter, healthier, happier smiles. Vancouver orthodontist, Dr. Sandra Khong Tai, is a long-standing expert on Invisalign® treatment, having treated over 4,000 cases since becoming a certified Invisalign orthodontist in 2000. She is currently a Diamond + Invisalign Provider, a designation indicating the highest Invisalign Provider status.
Recently, Dr. Tai shared her Invisalign expertise with dentists around the world at the international Align Digital Symposium in Vancouver, March 2-4, 2023. An annual event, the Align Digital Symposium is an invite-only conference that brings together dental delegates and industry experts.
Dr. Tai hosted a session entitled: Invisalign Treatment with Mandibular Advancement. As one of the pioneering doctors for Invisalign treatment with mandibular advancement, Dr. Tai shared best practices for treating Class II skeletal malocclusions — where the lower jaw is smaller than the upper jaw.
Historically, this type of correction was thought to be achievable only with braces. However, Invisalign with Mandibular Advancement (MA) is a next-generation, Class II corrector. It has been successfully proven to treat Class II skeletal malocclusion by bringing the lower jaw forward. Dr. Tai’s session covered indications for treatment, case selection criteria, and clinical tips for successful treatment.
When asked why she enjoys participating in these types of events, this Vancouver orthodontist responds, “I love the interaction with my colleagues and being able to present the latest developments and research in clear aligner technology. My hope for the participants is that they’ll be inspired to change their scope of practice — be more confident when they learn a new technique and see that others use these techniques successfully.”
Dr. Tai has lectured extensively about clear aligner techniques throughout the world. She also launched an online course called, “Orthodontic Mini Residency on Clear Aligner Technique.” This module-based course is geared towards dentists and orthodontists who want to expand their practice by offering Invisalign treatment but need continuing education that works around their schedule. She is the author of the Invisalign clinical handbook, Clear Aligner Technique.
A Top 1% Invisalign Provider, Dr. Tai is a member of AlignTech Global Faculty and on the Align Clinical Advisory Board for North America. She educates and mentors the next generation of orthodontists as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthodontics at the University of British Columbia and as an adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco.
